SLJ Towering Timbers

On your blog tell us whether you think logging should be allowed in New Zealand. Be sure to provide at least two reasons to support your argument.

Reason 1: Logging shouldn't be allowed in NZ
In my perspective  logging in  New Zealand can harm the native trees and there are numerous  homes that are damaged.  Who lives in trees owls why would you  owls and it's home.  You need to never ever cause a  destruction  or cause a environment at New Zealand's beautiful Native Trees. You need to never ever cause a  destruction  or cause a environment at New Zealand's beautiful Native Trees. Just keep it the way it is many people like it like that.

Reason 2 : Logging can hurt and harm the beautiful trees

Logging in NZ Should never ever happen ever because it can harm the owls and so much more.
No destruction is caused. Logging In NZ is something that never should be done in life. My decision is made and there will be no harm to the native trees. Let's just keep nature the way it is.
And remember if you are making a decision about logging then just listen carefully.
Ask yourself is this  really worth of cash? Maybe Yes Or No  You Decide.

Hi Ana,

It's Leslie here, reading your blog from my home in Canada where we also struggle with how much to allow logging in our country.

I agree with you that logging reduces the number of native trees we have in our forests, and affects all of the animals that live in that environment. When we lose forests we also lose the 'lungs' for our planet because trees produce oxygen and they filter our air through their leaves. We're foolish if we think we can survive on the planet without preserving our forests.

However, we do want to use wood for lots of things that we build such as our homes and other buildings. Can you think of a way in which we could build buildings without wood? Hmmm... that's a tough one. I wonder if we can do lumbering in a sustainable way? In other words, can we cut down only as many trees as we plant so that we're replacing the trees that we cut?

We have to work at finding some solution to this problem, don't we? Fortunately people are working hard at coming up with alternatives.

I hope that you're having a good summer, enjoying bush walks and time at the beach!! And I hope you'll keep working steadily at these activities.

Cheers,

Leslie
